First Tuesday Fast
The purpose of our monthly fasts is to partner together in prayer for power and direction for our church and city as we scatter throughout the city.
Fasting involves abstaining from food for a set period of time. The primary goal is to respond to what GOD is doing in our lives, church, and world. The time we normally would spend enjoying a meal can be spent in prayer. Our hunger pains remind us to focus on GOD and HIS presence. Fasting is an essential means of connecting our everyday life to the life of Christ. Scot McKnight writes, “fasting is the natural inevitable response of a person to a grievous sacred moment in life.”
We go without food as a response to what GOD is doing in our hearts, and even at times, a response to poverty and injustice. Fasting fights against the apathy that pervades our American Christian culture.
May we respond to GOD in fasting during this time and declare HIS greatness as we humble our body, mind, and soul through fasting.
